PHILANTHROPY

Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus is fighting food insecurity. Every 1 in 8 Americans are food insecure, and every race, gender, and community are affected. In the Gamma Alpha chapter, we strive each year to benefit the local Athens community through our dedication to service and fundraising. Every year we host two big philanthropy events, Mr. Milledge and Alpha Gam Jam, to raise money for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. With our partners, Meals on Wheels and Feeding America, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation is fueled by our sisters' passion to fight hunger nationwide and in Athens.

MR. MILLEDGE

Mr. Milledge is our annual fall philanthropy event where we hold a fraternity pageant that consists of representatives from each UGA fraternity. Each of the contestants compete with their best game day outfit, best pick-up line, and showcase their unique talent. They try to impress our guests and our panel of judges which have included UGA football players, the Panhellenic President, and the IFC President, and local Athens celebrity, Crop Top Corey! This year, Harrison Pugh of Alpha Gamma Rho was crowned Mr. Milledge. We are extremely proud to have raised over $15,000 for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation from 2025’s event!

ALPHA GAM JAM

Alpha Gam hosts its annual spring philanthropy event, Alpha Gam Jam, during the spring semester. This year we had live music, including live performances from Cam Smith. We catered food from Fully Loaded, which is a local pizza joint, alongside a colorful spring cupcake bar! We also had a dirty soda bar, which was not only tasty, but a fun way to be creative! Three pop-up shops were at the event, including Shop Leci’s, Summer Doodles and Golden Hour Permanent Jewelry, plus free goodies from Good Molecules! The proceeds from the event were donated to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, supporting our chapter's philanthropy of fighting food insecurity. From this event alone, our chapter was able to raise over $15,000 to go towards the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation!

AVA TRUSSELL

VP OF PHILANTHROPY

My name is Ava Trussell, and I am honored to serve as Alpha Gam's Vice President of Philanthropy! Our chapter raises funds and awareness for our philanthropy’s mission of fighting food insecurity, an issue that significantly affects our Athens community.

In the Athens-Clarke County community, we are proud to regularly partner with Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia to give our members the opportunity to volunteer at grocery packing and delivery events throughout the year. In addition to these two organizations, we host monthly service events with a variety of volunteer organizations, such as the Athens Area Human Society, Project Safe, Athens Wellness Clinic, The Backpack Project of Athens, and more.

One of the highlights of this past year's service events happened during our annual Week of Service in February. During this week, members created and delivered over 400 goodie bags for local elementary students. These bags included stress toys, treats, bubbles, and encouraging letters that were handwritten by our members. Events like these allow us to give back to the Athens community that has given us so much.

I’m honored to serve in this role, as I’m continually inspired by our members’ dedication to service and commitment to our philanthropic mission. From service events to percentage nights to our annual philanthropy events, we work together to embody the line of our purpose: "to welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world's work in the community where I am placed."

One of the things I value most about being an Alpha Gam is witnessing the meaningful impact our chapter has on both our philanthropy and the local community. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities this chapter gives us to connect, find purpose, and make a difference in the place we call our home away from home.
